Aim
To demonstrate the force on a current carrying conductor in a magnetic field by way of Faraday's original rotating wire experiment.

Description
The apparatus is connected as shown in the diagram. Mercury is poured into the plastic cup at the base, and the D.C. supply set to 12 Volts. The rheostat is then adjusted to the maximum resistance and reduced until rotation of the wire follows.
