Aim

To demonstrate Newton's third law.

Apparatus

• Linear air track
• Two air gliders
• Compressed springs or magnets
• Cotton and matches

Description

Two identical gliders are connected with a piece of cotton. The gliders have compressional springs or like poles of magnets facing each other. Burning the cotton releases the gliders.
