Description
The billiard balls in the demonstration apparatus have an intrinsic magnetic moment supplied by an imbedded magnetised disk. The demonstrator supplies a collinear angular momentum by manually setting the sphere spinning with a quick twist of the hand. The apparatus is subjected to a magnetic field rotating at the Larmor precession frequency perpendicular to a static field. Rotating the external field causes the classical "spin flip".
NB: This demonstration may not be available if the experiment is in student use in the Part 3 laboratory.
